Game Rules

  • ESCPSNA will apply the Official Rules of Netball, which were  updated 2018 & are endorsed by Netball Australia.  Year 4, 5, and Opens play by the Official Rules of Netball.
  • No jewellery is permitted on players. No bracelets, earrings, anklets etc. Band-aids over new earrings are not permitted. Earrings to be removed for the game and then replaced after sanitising.
  • The rules are set out as in the Official Rules of Netball book, available from Netball Australia, which all coaches should read. Schools should purchase a copy of the current Rule Book. Please click here for the DETAILED INF-RulesofNetball2020.
  • Year 2 and 3 ESCPSNA game rules are based on the modified NetSetGo rules.
    FULL RULES for ESCPSNA-NetSetGo-Rules-for-Year-2-Year-3 – 2022

    • Quick Summary. Use a size 4 ball. May hold the ball for 5 seconds.
    • Players must defend an opponent from a distance of 4 feet (1.2M).
    • Strict one-on-one defence.
    • Centre Passes shall be taken by the team that did not score the last goal.
    • No Coaches, parents and managers allowed to place themselves on goal lines.
    • Umpires will help the children on the court and explain the rules ‘on the run’.

  • Year 2 games are not scored. As per NetSetGO guidelines, Score sheets are not used for year 2 and instead Rotation sheets must be completed for each game. Player rotations will be recorded and each player must be given the opportunity to play through all positions during the season to allow them to properly learn the game.
